So apparently mustang owners are more civil and respectful than Saab owners. I did an experiment today. I went to the Saab Viggen enthusiasts FB page and the S550 Mustang Fans page. Said as follows: (to the Saab guys) “Let’s make today GM appreciation day. What’s your favorite non Saab GM product?” And (for the mustang people) “let’s be good sports and make today Camaro appreciation day. without the Camaro, the mustang wouldn’t be pushed to be as great as it is. What’s your favorite Camaro?”. The mustang page gave a lot of straight forward answers, including several that were downright amicable (apparently mustang owners really like IROCs). The Saab page, however:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

So today I learned that owners of a rootin’ tootin’ American muscle cars are far more respectful than the educated hippy types who buy Saabs.

Ben, I’ve found that the people of certain political affiliations who tend to be fond of Saabs are much more unpleasant and douchebaggish then us “lesser folk”

On a more related note, SAAB sucks.

Not exactly a “fair” assessment.

Kinja'd!!!6

Here’s the thing. The camero is a competitor to the mustang. GM drove SAAB into the ground. But of a difference there.

Saab owners are just salty they’re driving Malibus and LaCrosses that are German levels of unreliable.

Yeah... the questions weren’t exactly fair. One was about two respectable cars that most owners of either probably cross shopped, the other was “How do you feel about this company that destroyed the thing you love”

This is like asking Trekkies how they feel about Star Wars, and then asking Firefly fans how they feel about Fox. (I’m still mad !)

And what political affiliation might be the source of all those unpleasant douchebags?

What about Volvos and VWs?

There are two types of Saab owners - the affable, realistic type who talk about their experiences through the highs and lows with a smile and a chuckle.....and.....well.....that pond scum you stepped in.

Basically. It’s a pretty troll-ish question. Expecting any different response....well, yeah. There you have it.

They've kind of become beater status, I think those stereotypes have died out overtime and the cars don't nearly have the stink they do.

Saab people seem to have a highly inflated view of what Saab was before GM and even more so what Saab “gave” GM while it was under its umbrella.

Interesting.

In fairness, GM was basically what sunk SAAB.

Hmm...these saab owners seem to know the history behind their cars.

This makes me want to own a Saab one day even though they’re fwd, understeering pigs.

No, it's just something a word I use from time to time when describing something. An Aura if you will.

In their defense, what if they just “like” the brand?

Most of the time, people who are on the hard left. Not all of them, but the ones that are unpleasant, are really unpleasant. Let me put it this way, I knew a kid in high school who was a walking, living, breathing stereotype of the kind of people you would see on Tumblr. He and I did not get along.

No. They’re more like extremists. Either the nicest people ever or complete asshats. Some exceptions but on the whole, they swing hard in one direction

That is a bit unfair in that your statement blankets an entire population without any statistical proof or evidence of such behavior.

Kinja'd!!! Ssfancyfresh > d15b
05/16/2016 at 19:14

Kinja'd!!!2

Oh, for sure. Neat cars with a unique history and aesthetic.

But to say GM gutted Saab for its technology (whaaaaa...??) and stole the platform for the SRX while it was simultaneously shuttering the brand is a bit silly.

The niche that Saab occupied got crowded with competition and their product didn't stand out anymore.

Kinja'd!!! d15b > Ssfancyfresh
05/16/2016 at 19:19

Kinja'd!!!1

Agreed.

Saab gained the huge dealer/supply network, while GM gained an entry point into the European luxury market.

Unfortunately it was a bad fit.

You’re right, it is all emperical. However I am standing by it as my personal experience. You seem to be holding an alternate opinion. Care to share?

Actually no, I just cannot stand illogical statements. It perpetuates ignorant views and validates one’s lack of critical thinking skills.

Fallacies! Watch out for them.

Kinja'd!!! bob and john > sm70- why not Duesenberg?
05/16/2016 at 19:54

Kinja'd!!!2

Yes and no.

Saab needed the cash GM gave them when they got bought out. They would have been dead within 5 years otherwise.

BUT. you cant buy a brand, sink money in it for 2 years, then expect them to stay profitable for the next 20 years (how old was the 9-5 platform?)

Kinja'd!!! themanwithsauce - has as many vehicles as job titles > d15b
05/16/2016 at 20:23

Kinja'd!!!0

But at the same time, unless I am bringing numbers and figures, why would you assume an internet statement is an insistence of facts? Some degree of exaggeration and empirical data must be assumed by this point in the life of the jnternet

Kinja'd!!! d15b > themanwithsauce - has as many vehicles as job titles
05/16/2016 at 20:34

Kinja'd!!!0

Because I take things at face value while using the internets, as it does not provide the verbal, intonation and social cues face-to-face conversation provides.

Kinja'd!!! themanwithsauce - has as many vehicles as job titles > d15b
05/16/2016 at 20:46

But then all the more reason to not assume literal readings. It’s like walking up to a conversation and making comments about someone without knowing the inside jokes or tone of conversation.

Probably mad because SAAB is dead. It’s the difference between saying “your dog is cool and my different breed of dog is also cool” vs. “what dog is cool now that your dog got hit by a truck?"

Kinja'd!!! BiTurbo228 - Dr Frankenstein of Spitfires > Your boy, BJR

Kinja'd!!!1

Not really surprising. GM ruined Saab. It wasn’t in a great state when they bought it, but compare it to how Ford treated Volvo and Jaguar (and where those two companies are today). The Camaro didn’t ruin the Mustang.

It’d be like saying to Democrats ‘lets have a Trump appreciation day’.

Kinja'd!!! Amoore100 > bob and john
06/24/2016 at 04:42

Kinja'd!!!0

A more concise version would be to say that GM zombified Saab. If we're honest, I would have been ok if the 9000 was the last car that Saab ever made.

Kinja'd!!! Amoore100 > Logansteno: Bought a VW?
06/24/2016 at 04:43
